The Elephants Do Handstands
They have finished a Waltz, lined up and
did the CanCan
and now they balance on
trunks-their
tails waiving in the air
All for an audience
of monkeys
in grandstands
wearing
straight
jackets
An usher walks past
shouting
"Get your hot nuts!"
She is Standing
With Hair
Made of Yellow Jacket ringlets
rainforests freckle her cheeks
and water falls in crescents
trailing down her collarbone
Her hand gestures in my direction
fingers translucent from waves of heat
Multicolored in earthtones they are
Musical Notes
She beckons while an obese
Iguana at her feet chews
with gratification on
leafy-green heads of
commerce.
